Gingivitis/Periodontitis is a progressive inflammatory disease of the gums and the surrounding tissues around the teeth. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and is also often associated with poor oral hygiene and systemic diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions. Gingivitis causes the inflammation of the gums and when it is not treated on time, it advances to Periodontis. In periodontitis, the gums pull away from the teeth and pockets are formed.

At Pearl White Dental Clinic we recommend regular appointments for Oral Prophylaxis (Cleaning and Polishing) and a good daily oral hygiene regime from a preventative standpoint. We follow up and send you reminders for the same because we truly believe that “Prevention is better than cure.”

Scaling and Root Planing (Cleaning of Teeth)- Scaling involves the removal of the plaque and calculus deposits from the tooth surface; while root planing is the smoothening of the root surfaces to promote re-attachment of the gums to the tooth.

Laser-assisted Gum curettage for pocket reduction: in this treatment modality lasers are used to reduce the depth of the periodontal pockets.

Surgical

Flap Surgery– a flap is reflected to remove plaque and calculus that has gone underneath the surface of the gums onto the roots of the teeth. 

Crown Lengthening: This is a process where the gum and bone is trimmed in order to prolong the life of the tooth which needs a crown or is severely broken down

Gum De-pigmentation : to lighten the colour of the gums.
